Make Stuff Monday!
Homemade Baking Powder Biscuits
Allergy Info: Dairy, Nut, Soy and Egg Free
With Thanksgiving right around the corner and Christmas coming soon, I wanted to share this homemade biscuit recipe that my hero in the kitchen mother-in-law gave to me when we were at a total loss of how and what to feed our son due to his allergies to, what seemed like, EVERYTHING.
After the first time making this, I knew it would be a recipe that would linger through the years because these biscuits are very tasty and incredibly easy. I love to make tons of them too because they freeze well, making it convenient to pull them out of the freezer during a busy week night!
There’s no better feeling in the kitchen than your husband doing all of the dishes opening the oven to beautifully golden homemade foods such as these, that leave a sense of warm simplicity in your soul.
What You Need:
2 C unbleached flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 TBSP. shortening (I use the Spectrum Organic Shortening)
3/4 C water
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sift dry ingredients into large mixing bowl
Cut in shortening
Add water to make a soft dough
Knead lightly on a floured surface
Roll out dough 1/2″ thick
Cut out biscuits using floured top of wide tumbler
Using dough, form into swimming pool shape with a little swimmer who is about to jump in. But then, she sees a shark at the bottom and….oh. What? We are making biscuits not play-dough people? But our daughter was having so much fun! I admire her creativity!
Place on greased baking sheet & bake at 450 degrees for aprox. 12 minutes or until golden brown
These soft yet flaky biscuits are so versatile that they can be made for an elegant Thanksgiving meal or even….
A nice recpe idea you have here. I am always looking for more ideas to keep the kids entertained with and this one might just do the trick so thank you for sharing it.
It is good that you took the time to write this post; it’s stimulating to hear another’s point of view. I respect your work on this site, and I’ll come back for more reading.
