Honestly, in all of the ways I have been trying to incorporate “green” into my life…I had not even considered the area of exercise. I even talked with hubs the other night about Eco-Sex – but exercise? Never even crossed my mind.
A girl’s gotta have her priorities straight right?
We all know being fit is important. We all know it is essential to our health and wellness. So then why do not make it a priority in our daily grind? (maybe we are too busy greening our sex). Maybe some of you feel that you do not have the time. Maybe it sounds too daunting of a task. Maybe you (like me) have an “injury” to an area of your body that keeps you in fear of re-injuring it. Maybe you do not know where to begin or you are worried about the cost of a gym membership?
I have great news!
I am with ya. I honestly do not have 40.00/month to spare on a gym membership. I wish I did, but the reality is that 40.00 is spent long before I could even think of writing out the check to the gym. Okay – so that’s not really the great news. Because that news kinda sucks.
The great news is!!!!……..that not only is Brangelina rumored to have broken up (we love ya Jen An) but our exercise can be frugal and eco-friendly! Here are some ways that all of us can not only reduce our carbon footprint…but our waistline too!
1. Steps: Whether at home or the office, walk or run the steps a few times a day to tone your leg muscles.
2. Take your pets or kiddos for a walk (health benefits for you both as well as companionship).
3. Bust out your ipod: Dancing is an easy green exercise that will not only give you a great cardio workout, but is sure to put a smile on your face!
4. Get Up! Are you behind a computer most of the day? Stand up and stretch throughout the day. Small changes like “more movement” can help increase circulation, decrease sore muscles and fatigue as well as keeping your mind and body energized! Leg and arm lifts can be incorporated while on the clock.
5. Weights: Lifting is great for building muscle, balance, strength, definition and it is even great for bone density. You don’t need to buy expensive weights for this either – there are plenty of things around your house that you can use! Begin with smaller “weights” such as a jar of spaghetti sauce or a can of corn (which work much better as weights vs. food considering the latest news on BPA in canned foods) and work your way up to lifting your laundry detergent, gallon size jug of vinegar or even a sack of potatoes! When your milk jugs are empty – reuse them by filling with water for customized weights.
6. Jump Rope: Noooo….silly! These are not just for 7 year old girls out at recess! “Jumping rope can burn up to 1000 calories per hour, making it one of the most efficient workouts possible”. It tones while developing long and lean muscles, it’s an awesome cardio workout and it has the ability to maximize athletic skills by combining agility, coordination, timing and endurance. Fitfaq **Totally in my head now: (Cinderella dressed in yella, went upstairs to kiss a fella. Made a mistake and kissed a snake. How many Prince’s does it take? 1, 2, 3,)
7. While on the subject of jumping: Do some jumping jacks! Some of the fun things we all did as a kid actually have real perks for our well-being as adults. Jumping jacks are another good cardio to get your heart pumping and they can be fun too – add some music to your routine and enjoy it!
8. Stretch: Stretching before and after exercise helps to prevent injury to muscles that have been used or will be used. It is a critical part to every fitness program at all levels. It can improve flexibility while loosening muscles in preparation for the demands of a workout.
9. Sex: Psychologists and health experts believe sex not only puts a smile on your face, but can also boost the immune system, provide stress relief, help relieve arthritis, release endorphins, lower the risk of osteoperosis and help with headaches! (Health)
So yay – no excuse not to work out, right? If there are “workout essentials” that you really really want – be sure to check out green options

Oh man…my head’s gonna explode! So many punchlines, so little space! lmao! First of all…eco-sex? No more latex for SGM?
Bahahaha! Secondly, how bout eco-friendly bra options listed with the jumping jacks? Or, failing any good bra choices, maybe green alternatives to duct tape (get it “duct” tape?) And, come to think of it, have you TRIED jumping over a rope, or even a shadow since you were 7?? I did lately. I dialed 9-1…and then set the phone down beside me for when I collapsed after 2 minutes. Kidding aside, thanks for the giggle and it’s a great article today.
ROTFL!!!! Oh my gosh – I am speechless!!! That does not happen much – oh TLQ where do you come up with this stuff???
I’m looking to add a green bed from Wolf corp here in Fort Wayne soon. . .I’ll let you know when we get it in
Seriously!! I just don’t know what to make of this comment sir LOL! Dh and I certainly got a good laugh from it
Great article! Gardening can also be included in your list! Then ‘green’ has two meanings and you get to exercise while making your home prettier. Digging and weeding is more strenuous than you might think (stretching and twisting is great for the core).
Thanks for visiting my blog, I’m so glad I’ve found yours now
Oooh – very good one! We planted our first garden last summer and it was wonderful! I love it – thanks for the reminder
This is some helpful info, thanks. At the moment I’m really focused on achieving shredded six pack abs. It’s my personal mission these days. more rapidly. I’ve been told that egg whites, oatmeal, salmon, blueberries and broccoli are all important to incorporate into my diet. Anything else I’m not thinking of?
I pray that someday I will have a blog as good as yours!
I talk about the great weight loss achievments with resveratrol.
I Liked reading this post. Quite some usefull fitness info in it for me
. And after reading this i think you will really like the book Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle. To me this is like the health and fitness bible. Last year i lost almost 25 pounds and gained an inch on my arms in 12 weeks. What you describe here does resemble the book a bit, but there is so much more! I added the link in my name so you dont have to search for it
. Again, nice post and i hope you keep it up!
Been researching this most of the day this was very helpful thanks.
