Make Stuff Monday~ We made Doodles Cookies!!
My mission has been to try to go homemade in every way possible. However, there are honestly moments when homemade is not always possible due to hectic schedules of a busy family.
That is why I am glad that I did find a cookie mix that ranks really close to homemade! Doodles Cookies are not only all natural, but they are organic and gluten free as well. This is really important to me because I refuse to buy boxed foods that may taste good going in – but contain all kinds of artificial ingredients that do nothing in terms of keeping my family healthy. We all long for those warm and fresh-out-of-the-oven treats…but who says we have to give them up just because we desire a healthy life?
Deborah Sievers knew as a mom herself, that a wholesome “boxed” cookie was possible! Her passion for baking and healthy organic foods led her to create Doodles Cookies, which I had the opportunity to taste test. I was thrilled when she sent me her organic gluten-free nut butter cookie mix. This has been one cookie that I, as the mom of a peanut-allergy child, have not attempted in my kitchen. However, the great thing about her cookies are that they are ideal for those with food allergies as well as gluten-sensitivities – because you can choose which type of “nut” butter that you want to put in!
Her ingredients are simple to read and very allergy friendly. The box we received called for eggs, but I used our egg-replacer powder and they still turned out yummy! They smelled just like the ones my mom used to make. I knew though that the real test would come from our family’s biggest (so to speak) critics. The. Kids.
They loved them too! So that is good enough for me. A convenient, affordable, healthy, organic and allergy-friendly cookie mix that our entire family can enjoy together. I just love how they say that their cookies are not just an indulgence, but “a sensible treat” because, as a natural mom, that’s exactly what I long for. Just because we, as green moms, desire natural products doesn’t mean our kids do not long for “treats”. I personally feel that if I deprive my children of “treats” that they may not desire a healthier path in their life – when it comes time for them to make their own choices. I do not want them to feel as though they are missing out on anything, or that they are different in any way. I want for them to feel proud of our choices and to know that we are not sacrificing – but choosing alternative goodies.
Because the “nut” butter cookies were well received in our home, I just might have to investigate some other kinds. Doodles Cookies offers other varieties such as double chocolate chip Habanero, sugar, chocolate chip and even gift baskets – all organic and gluten-free! You can find her online store here.
Here’s why Doodles Cookies made me smile:
all natural
lower in calories and fat than traditional cookies
organic ingredients
Gluten-free and allergy-friendly
