I wonder what it’s like to “do it” on Bamboo? The cleaning that is
Today is the official,
“Extreme Green Home MakeOver Edition, part 1″
Yay! Thanks to dear old Uncle Sam, we are able to replace our dirty and dingy carpets that we can no longer stand. They have gotten so bad that the “5 second” rule is no longer permitted around here. Our house is small – only 950 sqaure feet upstairs and thankfully though, we do have a basement, albeit unfinished, but it serves it’s purpose! I can hide my cr@p down there for storage and the kids have a place to cut loose. Someday – we would like to finish it too and really make our little bungelow a sweet pad.
For now, we are CRAZY excited about our Bamboo! We have two bedrooms upstairs that will remain carpeted at this time, but the icky old linoleum in the kitchen will be outdaheya (out + of + here = oudaheya).
The carpeting in the hallway? Gone.
Family Room? Also Gonedy.
Bathrooms? Yep! We will be tackling those mildew-festering rooms once the Bamboo is complete. I am not sure yet what we have in mind but anything will be better than the carpet in there! Yes, I said “carpet in the bathrooms” *total faux pas right?
I cannot wait to show you our hard work and step-by-step renovations! And when I say “our” what I really mean is SGD’s hard work on the flooring and MY up-to-date photography for SGM. It’s a hard job but someone has to do it, right? So here are a few before pictures and a little bit of the “Oh Sh@t, what just happened to our house” pictures too!
Our “before” family room
From a different angle *there’s my computer where I get to sit and chat with all of you!!!
Our fugly brown door. We are painting the trim white and I think we may go to The Habitat for Humanity store where they sell construction “extras” for less money and Habitat gets the profit. Win-Win!
Dear Old Van barely made it home with all this excess! Geeeesh!
Green Home Renovation 101. Getting the team ready!
That’s the way to work-it honey!
Hi Papa! Smile you’re on candid camera!!! Actually, my step-dad is AWESOME with wood. He came up with his tools and thoughts and was ready to help in any way possible. XO! Here you are witnessing a “real man conversation” taking place. That wood they each have means serious business.
Hey SGD, Looking cute sweetie! What’s in that “MAN PURSE” you got there? Stick of gum, Altoids, french vanilla parfait lip gloss?
Oh dang. Never mind.
So there it is!! Stay tuned till next time for Part 2 of the Green Home Makeover!!!
Eeeeeeee! *happy bamboo dance*

Too cute!!! I would love to rip our carpet out!! So, I’ll let you test it out and let me know how it goes!! Can’t wait to see the finished pictures!!
AWESOME! Can’t wait for the After pics. Btw, kudos to you for vacuuming BEFORE you ripped out the carpet. I would have left it for probably two weeks before. lol And, now I’m extra GREEN with envy: our place is only 966 sq ft. Now I *really* want to do our floors!
Bahahaha! How funny! Actually, I would never had vacuumed before either – it was my “perfectionist” hubby
But see. the reason is that we took all that carpet and put it in the basement to make it cozy. Forgot to mention that part! Made more sense to sweep before hauling lol! You SHOULD get some Bamboo! It was cheap really in comparison to anything else. Only 1.99 sq foot! Bah-gain
On Home Depot site…is it classed as engineered bamboo? I haven’t looked into it enough to know if there are diff types of creating bamboo flooring.
Our box says “Home Legend” for the manufacturer and it is called “solid Bamboo” and the color is toast! Here is the link: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xls/R-100497046/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 *so excited for you!!!*
Oooh I love it! What are the benefits of Bamboo?? Would love to know. When we buy our first house I would love to make it as green as possible.
Oh thanks! I can not wait to see it done
There are some real perks for Bamboo for sure, especially that it is a renewable resource (grows well and fast)! I like the look of it and how well it can go with so many decorating schemes. We are the “vern” look (Vern from HGTV) where we love clean lines, simple and modern! I am excited that there will not be as much “filth” on floors and better for our son’s allergies. Carpets have a lot of hidden dirt and dust mites embedded into them over time and I am looking forward to just wiping clean and not having to worry about stains etc. The cost was very reasonable too since dh is installing them (snap together and nail down) at only 1.99/sq ft at Home Depot. Not too bad! So – it will be a fun project and we are very excited about the finished look
I am hoping it will make our home feel bigger too. BTW – how was vacay???
Oh boy does this look familiar. Hubs and I just installed hardwood floors in our downstairs level last month. HARD WORK. But so worth it!! Enjoy!
Oh I am so glad you came by! I really enjoyed your blog the other day
So you love your floors? I am really glad we are doing this!!
Oh, what a wonderful “eco” thing to do! I can’t wait to see the finished project. It is going to look fantastic!!!
Ya!
