Packing reusable cloth napkins and stainless containers reduces waste and saves money!
A household of four that replaces paper napkins with reusable cloth ones could save $70 per year or more on napkin costs, and reduce their waste by up to 40 pounds per year. If every household made this shift, we could prevent 1.5 million tons of paper napkin waste from entering the landfill each year (ShiftYourHabit.com).
Have you thought about your child’s lunch? I mean…reeeeeally thought about it, beyond what kind of sandwich to “throw” in for the day? I have had the great opportunity to review some fun-tabulous eco-friendly lunch kits here and have developed such an appreciation for not just what our kids our eating…but from where they are eating. I don’t just mean what chair, by what friend at what lunch table…I mean, are our children eating their food from lunches that are safe and not leaching chemicals into their food? I certainly do not want my children to be eating foods that have absorbed BPA from their containers!
Many people are becoming more aware of the hidden dangers in not just our food supply, but in the products we buy to carry and “protect” those foods. Ironic isn’t it? So now that I have found our healthy AND Earth-friendly lunch kits…I am ga-ga over the napkins I have now from Litter Free Lunch!
Litter Free Lunch makes packing a healthy and waste-free meal so easy! Felice and Megan, a pair of moms from Illinois and cofounders of Litter Free Lunch, have designed their products to be creative and enjoyable while reducing daily waste. They offer several eco-friendly options to help reduce and reuse whether you are packing or eating at home including cloth napkins in fun colors, stainless steel containers and water bottles, reusable sandwich and snack bags and a recycled fabric lunch bag!
Litter Free Lunch sent me their napkins and a reusable sandwich holder to try out. My thoughts? Oh well, mine don’t matter nearly as much as my kiddos who are using them
They likey…I likey…and we are all so happy that we have done cartwheels across the family room floor. Okay maybe we didn’t really exactly do cartwheels in the family room, but actually outside. And then, well we didn’t really do cartwheels but more like jumping up and down. And I didn’t actually do the jumping up and down but the kids did. Okay FINE! The truth is, the kids were jumping around outside while I sat down with a magazine…but I do like the napkins. Man you’re all over me today – geesh!
Anyway – so we like the napkins because there are TONS of colors to choose from, they are high quality and thick for even the messiest of eaters (yes you…little E), and they are machine washable. Oh yes, and the newest napkin news is that they now offer an organic line. Each set includes five (12in x 12in) 100% Organic cotton napkins that are made in the USA and are soft and durable! Each napkin has a sewn-in label with a space to write your name which is great so that not only will they be easy to locate if lost – but I like them too for food allergy reasons. I want to know that our E knows exactly which napkin is his and will not confuse it with anything or anyone else because his name is on it. It is a great safety feature for sure, as any cross contamination can be scary.
I always worry when putting new fabrics in the washer and dryer, but since these look and feel durable, I did it for testing value. They came out fine with a soft feel. There were some teensie strands that were hanging on the edges, but nothing major at all, just a cosmetic thing. Overall – I give em smileys……YAY!!!
Durable, thick and well-made
Reduces waste

OK, I am already a fan of SGM AND I clearly follow you. I follow Litter free Lunch and I am a fan. I am dealing right now with lunch boxes and what is safest for the kids, so I would love to win this prize for them. I noticed that their smaller water bottles are a good price, too.
Hi! Well, I don’t have kids and we work (and eat) at home so … I’m not going to enter the contest but wanted to say … FABULOUS! I personally believe that using reusable lunch items will not only reduce waste and help the earth … it’ll help our wallets, as well.
Best of luck to everyone who enters!

already follow you on Twitter & your fan on FB, following Litter Free Lunch on Twitter now too! great products. we use cloth napkins everyday @ our house!
Oh, just followed these guys on twitter, what a fab idea! I’ve been using cloth napkins in Alex’s lunch since he started his toddler program at 20 months and it’s been great. We recently made the switch at home as well, now I just have to figure out a way to curb my paper towel use. One things at a time… I’m just glad there is an alternative to using the lovely (well not so much anymore) cloth napkins that we got for our wedding 6 years ago.
