Have a Sassy Green September!

Have a Sassy Green September!

Let’s face it, Fall is sassy and fun when you do it up eco-sassy-style! There are so many ways to express your green among all the other colors of this season. I love fall and look super forward to indulging in warm apple cider, soft sweaters and sexy fashions that go way beyond frump. I love to pounce into heaping piles of leaves and the smell of pits…BONFIRE pits ya’ll!  (you thought I was going to say armpits didn’t you? Eeeew. That’s just wrong).

A midwestern girl with a beach heart – I still find many ways to cherish the land and the non-water, non-sand, non-warm, non-okay I will stop whining now – activities that come upon me during the Autumn season. There are so many great reasons to celebrate this month and the coming ones before our boy Jack Frost comes to town.

~Show your love and support for organic foods during the Fall by taking advantage of the last few weeks of Farmer’s Markets. The month of September is Organic Harvest Month, and with this annual event brings awareness and a chance to support farmer’s who choose to produce their crops without chemicals.

~Apple Picking is at it’s prime in the Fall! Locate a local pick-your-own orchard and make it a fun family day. This is a great way to help inspire kids to be green and to find the joy in local produce! Just watch out for those tall ladders. Yeah, I am almost certain I may have fallen off of one as a kid. At least that’s what my brother tells me. But then – he also tells me I was born on the Indy 500 track so you decide.

~Fall fairs and festivals! A great place to experience local music and culture and a fun way to be green with booths set up from local artisans and a great walk for exercise. Don’t forget to take along your reusable water bottle – ya might get a little thirsty with all that exploration.

~Outdoor entertainment and a yummy vegan meal: Enjoy sitting outside on a cool Autumn evening with a date night outdoors. Before the entertainment begins, spend the evening with your special someone at a classy corner cafe that specializes in vegan perfection. That’s right! Eating a vegan diet is environmentally efficient as it reduces waste, pollution, and deforestation (note: I am working on less meat too).

“According to Dr. David Brubaker, PhD, at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for a Livable Future, The way that we breed animals for food is a threat to the planet. It pollutes our environment while consuming huge amounts of water, grain, petroleum, pesticides and drugs. The results are disastrous” (chooseveg).

~Wanna look like a hot eco-fashionista or fashionisto this fall? (Code name: man fashion) Why should the ladies have all the fun? ;) So get busy strutting your sexy green stuff in these Cri De Coeur Wendy boots or for you green guys – how ’bout a nice eco-sexy Looptworks Perai hoodie from Nimli.com to stay warm? They got what you need to look fab without sacrificing your green groove.

~Like to entertain? Well you can always hook up with Celadon Road and host a green party while earning rewards towards some good greenies treats! They’ve got what you need and crave to fill your home from top to bottom (and even side-ways) with all the latest eco home decor for every room and every person in your home. Have some fun and host a green party this fall!

~Bakin, Bakin, Bakin! Way better than the greasy stuff, you can fill you family and your freezer full of bounty of Harvest! Stock up on fresh produce and whole wheat flour and create a fun bake-ing (pronounced ‘baking’ versus ‘bacon’, just to clarify) day. It’s a fun way to prepare all kinds of baked goodies and treats to freeze for the winter using your fresh and local stuff. (Tip 1. freeze quickly before eating. Tip 2. No tip 2, just get them in the freezer FAST! Your calorie counter will thank you).

~Smile! I had to include this one! Fall is a beautiful and wonderful time of year to reflect, refresh and enjoy so many beautiful things in nature and in your life. It’s a time when nature is changing and preparing for her winter nap. It’s a time when we too, can relax and appreciate all that this amazing world of ours has to offer us every day! So smile…do whatever you WANT to do. No obligations for just a moment. Being green has many meanings – and one for certain is to appreciate our Earth and Fall is a gorgeous time to sit back and just breathe.
