Have you heard of Kids Konserve yet? Well, these awesome greenies were actually one of the very first eco-friendly school lunch kit companies that I had ever heard of! I remember looking them up last year because they sounded so fabulous and I really want my kiddos to have healthy and safe lunches from the foods they consume to what these foods are stored in.
I was so happy when given the opportunity to take an actual physical look at these….in person. To carry it around, stuff it full of fruits and veggies, see how it stands up to our kids not-so-gentle shoving of it into the book bag etc. And in all of these areas, I have been nothing but pleased and then some. Our kids even “fought” over who would get to carry it to school. Thankfully, because my E only goes two days a week – we “agreed” that M could take it on her three days and the two days that E is in school…he would get it.
So problem solved and the Smiling Green Kids compromise made life good again. Here’s the one we have – it’s called “caterpillar.” I really like the easy open and durable velcro-closure of the bag, it’s a thick fabric, the containers are solid, leak-proof and our E’s little 5 year old fingers can successfully get it open. This is a good thing considering they only get 20 minutes to eat and what kids wants to sit at the lunch table with their hand raised for help for 10 minutes while the 2 lunch helpers try and assist 50-60 kids? So yes – accessibility is key!
Oh and the napkins? Wow thick. Not just thick. No sir – but Wow thick! I kid you not. I also like the little strip of fabric for labeling purposes – would *not* want this bad-dog getting lost! Last – the water bottle. Well friends…I am seeing SGM logo water bottles now! These are really great quality too – made of 304 food-grade stainless steel, unlined and BPA-free. They are tough! We actually bought our M a stainless steel bottle before school started and it was $19.00!!!! OUCH!!! Yeah, the *only* reason she got it was because I happen to have a gift card to a store that I needed to use. Then, she dropped it two weeks later on the sidewalk and the darn thing is all dented and the paint is peeling – nice. So I am thinking that Kids Konserve $13.50 is a baaaa-gin!
You get it all in this fun lunch kit! For $45.00, you can feel happy knowing your child has everything he/she needs for a healthy lunch! If you know of anyone with food allergies – I really like the fold-up-style placemat too! Come on over to their online store and see all the fun patterns and kits they have available – or mix and match with separate pieces of green lunch goodies!

Our reusable product line gives you convenience of coordinated lunch kit components that may be used together in our Waste-free Lunch Kit or in a lunch box of your choice. All with the underlying aim of creating a Zero Waste Lunch.
And now I can tell you why they make me smile really really BIG, sometimes revealing a piece of spinach stuck between my two front teeth….
As a the mom of two wee ones in school – I am so happy that a company as cool and fun as Kids Konserve is giving back to our schools while educating our kids about the importance in taking care of our Earth! Now as you may remember, my M just made Student Council this year and the biggest thing on her agenda (aside of the popcorn sales fundraiser) is really taking the recycling program to a whole new level – and she’s only 8 peeps. You know what this tells me? This is a girl on a mission and this generation *I happen to believe* absolutely can and will make a difference – especially with us older eco-peeps to guide them along and walk the walk with them!
Waste-Free Challenge
Kids Konserve has made it their goal to help in educating schools, students and their families on the importanceof REUSE! Wow. *I* even want them and I don’t even have kids? Is that as weird as going to see Shrek in-theatre with no kids?
I’m in the “Green Initiative” parents’ group at my son’s school, and always feel like a traitor when I send something in his lunchbox that has to be thrown away.
These would be wonderful! I now like not only you, Smiling Green Mom, but Kids Konserve on FB too.
