Assistance needed on aisle 6…
What’s a goober greenie you inquire? Oh, I can surely be of assistance to you in that department.
*hands on hips, chest out wide, cape flowing gently in the breeze* (oh just go with me on this would ya!)
It’s all about letting that inner child come out and play! That’s right, we are never too old to have fun and live it up while living green. This year, I don’t want to take myself too seriously. I want to make some changes here and there all year long, without this ginormous New Year’s Resolution pressure weighing me down.
So rather than make myself feel like an overwhelmed little greenie for not having it all “the way it should be” – or worse, not following through with this grand change I vowed to make (gasp!) – I resolve to be a goober greenie who just goes with it. Who wears a smile, looks forward to tomorrow and all of it’s amazing possibilities and makes changes as I can.
Would I love to go spend a bunch of money and put bamboo across my entire house? Yup.
Would I like to paint my walls with low or no VOC’s paint….heck yeah!
Would I get giddy over new low flow faucets – shoosh yes!
How bout a 100% organic diet! Oh bliss.
But I need to be realistic. If I made these resolutions, I would most assuredly be setting myself up for disappointment. I can’t afford this – at least not all of this and not right now and certainly not in a big bulk purchase. So what’s a little greenie to do when she wants to make changes for 2011?
(sound the horn!!)
How about focusing on small changes periodically! It’s awesome to set goals and to hope and dream of making this New Year one of eco-changes. Begin by evaluating what you want and how you can get there by writing down these personal goals. Perhaps you could think of one thing you want to improve on each month and add this to you daily planner, or create an Action Plan with the cool tools from Practically Green! Maybe you work well with a post-it on your bathroom mirror? Whatever works for you – just keeping them in a personal space where you are reminded of your priorities and your dreams is a great way to inspire yourself throughout the whole year!
But remember, being a greenie is one thing. Being an goober greenie is a secret club (we should totally think of a handshake!) that only those who take the pledge understand – it’s about enjoying the journey. Dancing in the rain. Singing in the shower (take a short one – you’re green!). Catching snowflakes on your tongue….(oops, giving away all the trade secrets!).
No frowns permitted. No being hard on yourself or feeling upset for lack of follow through. It’s okay! Really! Just relax, do the best you can do with each day and make changes as you can! There’s no pressure or judgement in this clubhouse – nooo sir. It’s all about supporting and encouraging one another to make small changes along the way that can really change your lifestyle and our lovely home – Planet Earth – in the overall scheme!
So chill with me this 2011 and let’s be goober greenies together! Want to play?

Love this Lynn. We ‘greenies’ can get really dour if we let ourselves focus on the dark side. LOL. However, what will really help our cause is to be light hearted, have fun with it all, and set the pace for goodwill! You know what I mean?
Now, about those short showers….I fail miserably at those!
LOL! I know!!! The short showers thing is a toughy for me too – it’s the only place to myself haha and so warm on a cold winter day! brrr! Lisa – I think we get along for this very reason – you too are a light hearted girlie! Love it – “the dark side” *snickering*
